Call of Duty killer: Battlefield 3 trailer stuns
Electronic Arts didn’t quite manage to derail the Call of Duty gravy-train when it released Medal of Honor late last year. However, a first proper look at ‘Battlefield 3’ shows that the company is well on the right track to achieving this goal the second time around...
Put simply, this third outing in the Battlefield series for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 looks incredible. This is near enough three minutes of proper in-game footage too – none of half-glimpsed fragments of action as many of you may have squinted at in earlier clips.
Instead we get the full heat, dust, heavily adrenalised action, bleeped-out colourful language and pin-sharp graphics of the game in all its glory. It’s corking stuff and Activision, the publishers of the Call of Duty franchise, better start looking over their shoulders pretty smartish.
The watchword for the Battlefield series has always been destructibility. EA, and the game’s Swedish developers DICE, promise even more generous servings of this for number 3, with your cover crumbling away under enemy fire and multi-storey building collapsing to rubble when hit with a well-aimed missile. A word too for the sound effects, which do much to convey to atmosphere of the game’s modern day settings – Paris, New York, Tehran, Kurdistan and more.
Battlefield 3 is surely topping out list of ones to watch out for later in the year. Electronic Arts hasn’t confirmed a date yet, but is already tantalising potential pre-order customers with a freebie ‘Back to Karkand’ expansion pack. On the basis of this amazing footage we’ll be joining the queue as soon as it opens. How about you?
